Dragonflyâ„¢ Have you got the right stuff?
Posted by Mordermi on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 (04:02:10) (235 reads)

The Society is now on the backside of Karazhan, having beaten Curator 3 weeks in a row and pwning the Chess event twice. We consistently run two Kara groups and are looking for the right pieces to make two solid groups that clear the instance every week (maybe a third group if we can get the right classes)! Once we have two groups clearing Kara, we move on to the 25-mans, since we will then have the gear to be successful.

We have a good core of players, but are looking to add a few more who like to raid a good 3 nights a week and who want to put in a bit of effort and help themselves, their raid, and The Society as a whole be successful. This will allow us to put Kara on Farm and move on to Gruul's lair. Are you (or your friend) a feral druid capable of using Moroes for a chew toy? A mighty, super-stabby rogue? A shadow priest who heals while he DPSes with the best of them? A Healadin who can't give his mana away? A warlock with the powers of darkness at your command? A shaman who uses the forces of nature to bury mobs and bosses alike? These classes are in high demand so please drop an application and contact a guild officer about joining The Society!

Just fill out an application

Dragonflyâ„¢ The Society continues progress in Kara
Posted by Mordermi on Tuesday, July 03, 2007 (19:54:10) (179 reads)

This week saw continued progress in Kara. Both groups moved past the Maiden and the Opera events in the first night, to begin banging on The Curator when they began night 2. Group 1 made several good attempts on the Curator and should be downing him soon. Group 2 moved beyond him for the 2nd week in a row. They also beat the Chess Event and pulled Shade of Aran twice (getting him below 50% the first time and to 32% on the second.) Congratulations to The Society on moving closer to clearing this instance and being in a position to field successful 25-man raids. Smile

To move further, we all need to be working on gear, enchants, gems, and pots/food buffs. If you need help running an instance, please let an officer know what instance and what piece of gear you are going for and we'll see what we can do to help you get it.

We will also be putting together a list of best practices so that we can share knowledge across all the groups. Let's keep up the good work!

Dragonflyâ„¢ What's a little friendly competition among friends?
Posted by Mordermi on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 (19:15:45) (238 reads)

This week saw The Society field 2 Karazhan raids for the 3rd straight week, and also saw a little competition among the two groups.

On Saturday, Group 1 mowed down Huntsman, dropped Moroes on the 3rd try, 1-shotted Maiden, and then made a fur rug out of the Big Bad Wolf opera event to get to The Curator on night one. Night two saw a number of wipes on Curator with the best effort getting him to about 78%.

Meanwhile, Group 2 went in on Sunday and 1-shotted Huntsman, Moroes, and Maiden before drawing the Romulo and Julienne opera event. After 3 tries (each progressively better), Group 2 called it a night and went back on Monday. Group 2 then improved further and dropped R&J on their 2nd attempt of the night and moved on to Curator. Despite a number of different strategies, the best they could manage was about 77%. After that, Group 2 farmed some void crystals from the (Bat Boss) Servant's Quarters.

Both groups did very well....equaling the guild's best runs to date. One group got further in one night, the other group was quicker through the first 3 bosses. Congratulations to both groups! Both groups continued to farm epics (and now some crystals/shards). Hopefully, we'll continue to build from those successes as we work on The Curator. Toward that end...

Dragonflyâ„¢ The Rebirth of Raiding?
Posted by Mordermi on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 (17:50:39) (359 reads)

The month of May saw both the worst of times and the best of times for The Society in raiding Karazhan. After our April success in getting past Maiden to the Opera event and the Curator, we hit a wall. A few unsuccessful runs along with some burnout led to the occasional raid and a heavy drive to level some alts. This was potentially a guild low.

And then the Memorial Day weekend came around and we fielded not one, but TWO groups through Karazhan! Group 1 went Sat/Sun/Mon and group 2 went Sun/Mon. The net result was THREE (3) Huntsman kills (he bugged once for one of the groups, so they had to rekill him after blizzard respawned him), one Moroes kill, and a few attempts at the Maiden of Virtue and the Wizard of Oz opera event! While we didn't progress further in terms of bosses, we did progress in terms of having more people involved and having some fun on new content.

For the coming week, Junk will put up a raid and everyone who would like to (and is able to) go is encouraged to sign up and put in their comment what night's they are available. If we get enough bodies for more than one run, we will discuss on the forums which nights each group will run.

We saw a lot of good work in Kara this week. We gave a lot of folks experience with new content or with new raiding partners. We got some phat epix. Now, we have a chance to keep some of that momentum going and build on that experience.

A couple things the officers would like to note as a reminder:

Dragonflyâ„¢ Progress in Karazhan!
Posted by Mordermi on Tuesday, May 01, 2007 (00:32:47) (759 reads)

This past week was a good week for The Society in Karazhan (and bad week for some Karazhan Bosses)!!

Our intrepid guild mates ventured into Karazhan and summarily dismissed the Huntsman and Moroes (which is now normal for The Society). Then, they ventured to the Maiden of Virtue to test their mettle. The Maiden has now been De-Virtued and we expect her to soon be added to the "farm" list. Next, our team went forth to unexplored territory for us as a guild...the Opera Event. Naturally, the party drew the toughest of the encounters, Romulo and Julienne. Rather than pack it in and call it a night, The Society decided to pop some trinkets, blow some cooldowns, and get down to business. Net Result: one shot and it ended just like Romeo and Juliet...they died. (Alas, the week's roll of good fortune ended there, as The Curator reminded us that we don't do our best work at 2 AM.)

For those keeping track of the guild's progress in Karazhan, here's our boss kills to date:

Let the Drive begin!
Posted by Denovan on Monday, March 26, 2007 (15:28:22) (117 reads)

Just a quick and dirty news post to keep people updated.

The recruitment drive has begun anew.

We are putting out the word for all classes except Rogues, Hunter's and Priest's. I think we are more than stocked at those positions but we are seriously lacking in depth in all others at the moment.

If you are talking to somone in game or grouped with someone that you think would be a good fit for us then send them along to the web site and have them fill out an application in the Public forum.

You all are aware of the type of guild we are, both in personality and play style so keep that in mind when directing people here.

Thanks my friends, now lets all get back to finishing up our attunments!

Calling all Raiders!
Posted by Denovan on Monday, March 19, 2007 (07:40:18) (152 reads)

OK folks, the time has come to dust off the old soap box again.

BC has been out for just over 2 months now, we have made our maiden voyage into Kazaran, many of us are on our way to getting our Heroic instance keys.

The guild as a whole needs to take a hard look and figure out what direction we are going in.

Actually let me rephrase, You as a member of this guild need to take a hard look at the direction you are going in.

It is the same statement but the second version is more direct because I want everyone to be clear on the fact that YES, I am talkiing to you!

We are going to move forward and once again be the raiding guild we were before. We are looking to flesh out a second Kazaran group and that means we need peopel to get off thier tookus and get attuned for it.

Additionally we have some people that have multiple "mains", this is all well and good but for raiding purposes these players need to pick one and stick to it so that when we try to evaluate what the guilds needs we can do it with certainty.

Right now according to the Armory we have 35 level 70's. Yes 35.

Even given the fact that there are people who have already leveled Alts to 70 there is still no reaosn why we can't get a second Kaz run together if people would only do thier part and get attuned.

The officers are looking over the places where we think we need to beef up the ranks and if we feel we need to recruit more players to fill needs we will and that may leave some wanting for a raid spot when they get around to finishing all thier attunments.

I certainly do not want to have to tell peopel they can't go but I have to look out for the greater good of the guild as a whole. If that means recruiting 1 person and telling someone thier spot was "out sourced" so that 9 other guild members get to run Kaz then that is what I will do.

It sucks, I truly do not want to leave anyone behind. I don't think that is what this guild is all about but I do have to listen to the needs of the guild and right now the needs are to run some end game and replace all those epics we worked so hard to get.

This is your alarm going off telling you that it is time to get up and get to work. Do you really want to keep hitting the snooze button?

The Society and The Burning Crusade
Posted by thorien on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 (08:00:52) (130 reads)

Greetings fellow members!

Its been a spell since we have had any real news posted so I wanted to update people on a few things just so we can all be on the same page or at least in the same ball park.

As you all know BC will bring with it a new level cap of 70 as well as a handfull of new 5 and 10 and 20 man content. With the leveling frenzy added back into the game for everyone there is no way we can predict the long term effect this will have on 40 man raids.

I can however tell you the short term effects.

From this point forward and until the weekend through February 17/18 there will be no scheduled 40 man raids.

Our reasons are simple. First too many will have thier attentions focused on leveling and will not want to miss out on the new content just to conquer the old. Second, if you take a look back over the last few weeks the attention to raid has been sub par at best. I can say one thing in that many many people are lucky we never instituted a late policy in regards to DKP loss because lots would have lost way more than they earned over the last month or two.

This will give the officers a chance to gauge how BC will efect all of us as well as giving us some time to level and enjoy the game.

Now as of now all ranks will be frozen. There will be no new SFC's and no SFC's will lose rank due to raid inactivity since there are clearly none that will be posted.

DKP is another topic all together. There will be no decay so don't worry there. What will be looked at closely and discussed is if we will continue with the same DKP accumulation for the raid events in BC. Don't bother asking what we are doing with this right now since we don't really know and the discussion is still in the early stages. I can personally see the pro's and con's both ways but we will have to see how it goes.

Lastly lets help each other out in BC they way we all worked together before. I want to see The Society blazing the forefront in BC and being the first to discover some of the new content.

With all that said, ..... LET THE LEVELING BEGIN!!!!!
